When a loved one suffers with addiction, the treatment is typically focused on the person with the addiction with little, if any, help for the family. However, because addiction is a disease that impacts the entire family, the families who also join the process along side their loved one have the best chance of long-term sobriety and family healing. Family coaching is a directive, one-on-one support for family member(s) which coaches them through the interactions with the one suffering from addiction, other family members and transitioning from enabling behavior to more healthy relationships.
People suffering from addiction see, feel and react to the world differently than people who are sober. Consequently, communication with those individuals is very different and often requires someone with expertise in the field to effectively communicate, guide, partner and move them forward to positive change in his or her life. Individual coaching is customized for the individual to meet the needs of the person at the time. Services are offered for wherever the person is at that moment to address needs in many areas such as: conflict management, entry into detox, treatment center selection, ongoing support, post treatment transitional support and aftercare, dealing with trauma, family healing, and integration back into a new life.
Because workshops bring people together who are dealing with similar situations, the therapy outcomes for the individuals are usually greater than the results from an equal amount of time spent in one-on-one counseling. To maximize the therapeutic value to those we serve, two types of workshops are available. The first is a family group workshop where families come together to deal with issues such as enabling, trust, forgiveness, shame, trauma, shame and conflict management. At the same time the person suffering from addiction participates in a group workshop dealing with similar issues from the addiction viewpoint. Private family workshops are also available for individual families looking to improve their conflict management. Gender-specific group workshops are held for intensive work where underlying trauma, abuse, family addiction and/or other painful life events are present in a person’s past. Intensive workshops focus on the individual to make sense of their past and healing for their future.
A full range of services are available to treatment centers including workshops to professional training and development of staff. Our workshops are customized to meet the specific needs of the treatment center to reach a full range of audiences including clients, families and/or staff. They may be used to supplement the existing programs or as an outsourced option where Kim Castro Consulting provides all of the center’s regularly scheduled workshops throughout the year. We offer needs analysis of current programs to identify potential gaps, recommend next steps, topics and activities to strengthen the scope of services. Professional training and development of your current staff is another area of expertise that enhances the level and scope of services provided by the center (e.g.: learning how to implement evidence based clinical practices into faith-based treatment principles). Addiction certification courses, continuing education and customized programs for staff and treatment center professionals are available. Contact us to learn how our services would enhance the services you currently offer.
